Five Things to Do “When You Look Fine but Feel Overwhelmed”
Sometimes you smile beautifully in public but cry quietly in private. You answer messages. Attend church. Cook meals. Post pictures. Encourage others. Show up looking “fine.” But inwardly, you are overwhelmed.
Your heart is tired. Your thoughts are heavy. Your soul feels stretched. And one of the hardest things about overwhelm is that people often cannot see it.
Even strong women get weary.
Martha understood this feeling in . She was busy serving, working, and trying to keep everything together while silently becoming emotionally burdened.
Jesus lovingly told her:“Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things.”
Maybe that is where you are today — troubled about many things. Here are five things you should do when you look fine but feel overwhelmed.
1. Be Honest With God
Stop pretending before God. You do not have to perform strength in His presence.God can handle your tears, fears, confusion, and exhaustion. David constantly poured out his emotions before God in the Psalms. Hannah wept before God. Elijah admitted he was tired. Even Jesus wept. Prayer is not only for polished words. It is also for broken hearts.Tell God exactly how you feel.
2. Rest Without Guilt
Many women feel guilty for resting because they think resting means weakness. But rest is biblical. In , Jesus told His disciples:“Come ye yourselves apart… and rest a while.”Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is rest. Sleep. Pause. Turn off the noise. Take a walk. Breathe deeply. You are human, not a machine.
3. Stop Carrying Everything Alone
Being overwhelm grows in isolation. There are burdens you were never meant to carry by yourself. Talk to a trusted friend. Speak to a mentor. Open up to wise believers. Ask for help when needed. In , Scripture says:“Bear ye one another’s burdens.”Strong people need support too.
4. Return to God’s Word
When your mind is overwhelmed, your thoughts can become louder than truth. That is why you must intentionally return to Scripture. The Word of God stabilizes your heart. When fear says, “You cannot handle this,” God says:“My grace is sufficient for thee.” — When anxiety says, “Everything is falling apart,” God says:“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Feed your spirit truth daily.
5. Remember That God Still Sees You
Overwhelmed people often feel invisible. You may feel unappreciated, unnoticed, or emotionally drained. But God sees every silent sacrifice. He saw Hagar in the wilderness. He saw Elijah under the tree. He saw the widow gathering sticks. He sees you too. You are not forgotten.Your exhaustion is not hidden from Heaven.
Call to Action
Today, stop pretending that you are okay if you are not. Spend quiet time with God and release every burden weighing on your heart. Give yourself permission to rest, heal, and receive God’s strength again. You do not have to carry life alone.
